Hard Cover - Black and White....She is a seer, a visionary, a mystic. Her writing is not only creative, clever and captivating, she is also a brilliant poet. Her Mystic Verses are entertaining on the surface, however, once you begin to peel away the layers, you will find the real alchemy within her rhymes. She is eerily cabalistic, a strangely esoteric embodiment of the ethereal, this Delphic Oracle of Oracles who is possessed with a knowledge of past, present and future that defies "reason" (as she so aptly identifies the problem with mankind)." You've read Nostradamus and his visionary quatrains - Casey and his in-trance visions - and there are many more who channel or communicate with entities on the other side. M Teresa Clayton is our contemporary catalyst. She listens, discusses, then writes the messages in pristine verse like no other. Truly mystical.

Teresa Clayton's book, Mystic Verses, the author takes the reader on a magical journey through a myriad of thought and emotion provoking poetic vignettes. These windows to the soul, bring the reader closer to the mystic edge of reality, enabling one to peer behind the veil and see the true self.Great as a book of morning meditations or as a conversation starter, Mystic Verses should become a good companion in every avid reader's library. A rare collection of wondrous journeys to the edge of the mystic veil.

Reviews from Mystic-Verses.com By M TERESA CLAYTON "I have had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Clayton for the Charon Chronicles in 2009 and again this month as her revision of the book debuted with the inclusion of over sixty new verses. First, I'd like to say that the book is a one of a kind. Secondly, she is a talent that will most assuredly be discussed in years to come. It has been a long time coming to read poetry the likes of hers. It is my honor to have met her, interviewed her (twice) and to now have the revised copy in hand, signed by her. She is incredibly talented as well as metaphysically gifted. Her mystic writings are authentic in their origin and the information shared with her and then transcribed into verse here is beyond words. I am excited, I am terrified, I am hopeful, I am a Christian man and now, I am a believer in things that are not of this world. Thank you for opening my eyes M Teresa Clayton. Thank you for sharing such profoundly spiritual insights in this book. This is not only a book of poetry, it is a reference book as well." - A. Diamonde ' "A stunning collection of poetry that is filled with dark beauty and Gothic heart. It speaks of both the sunlight and the darkness of the human soul. A gripping and powerful testament of enlightened womanhood from a true Mistress of the craft." - Lioness DeWinter, author of The Scent of Jasmine, Southern Cross and Corinthians.''' ' "M. Teresa Clayton is the very definition of a mystic writer, and a brilliant one at that. She hears the voices of “the Otheres” from beyond the veil, and transforms those words into everything, from the most beautiful to the most bone-chilling prose, like no other author can. Each piece is unique in its transformation according to the messages that are received and will take you on an amazing journey of sights and sounds, as well as giving you a front row seat to those things that you can not see, but you will only hear in the darkest recesses of your mind. " - Debbie Dixon, Artist, Photographer, Poet and Author''' ' "M Teresa Clayton is endowed with the great mind & literary charisma of a pen wielding samurai.....And of no less importance, she has found the courage to hone her gifts, in a campaign to extract worthy POW's from media monotinism." - Mitch Munster, November 1st Publications, Proprietor/Scriptwriter''' ''''' '''"It does not take a lover of poetry to appreciate the contents within this humble book by the poetress, The Mystress M. Teresa Clayton, it will come. What it does involve is a love for buried treasures, puzzles of wit and wisdom, and an obsession with obtaining the magic incantations that open the genie's bottle. Enjoy the journey as well as the quest. " - Marg Melton-Baker, The Charon Chronicles ' ' "M Teresa Clayton - She is a seer, a visionary, a mystic. Her writing is not only creative, clever and captivating, she is also a brilliant poet. Her Mystic Verses are entertaining on the surface, however, once you begin to peel away the layers, you will find the real alchemy within her rhymes. She is eerily Cabalistic, a strangely esoteric embodiment of the ethereal, this Delphic Oracle of Oracles who is possessed with a knowledge of past, present and future that defies "reason" (as she so aptly identifies the problem with mankind). ' You will read it once, read it twice and keep on re-reading it over and over again. Just when you think you have figured out the message tucked neatly inside of the bottle, even after breaking it open and ripping the message from within, you will soon discover that you never comprehended the cipher as intended. No, you must make a decision to turn off the light, open the door and walk inside without expectation and let the voices speak to you. Only they can give you the key to the secrets inside." - William S. Avery ' "I have read the mystic writings of M Teresa Clayton for over twelve years, it still amazes me how she gleans the future with such accuracy. I consider myself a skeptic, however, I have made an exception for this lady. Her sources must be divinely channeled. - A, J. Aukland, Jr., Author''' '' ''''' ' '' "Not a Barrett-Browning, a Plath, nor a Dickinson - these poems are not filled with dreamy-eyed romance, unrequited love, nor the coquettish interplay between lovers, this is a different genre, and M. Teresa Clayton, is a different breed of writer, more along the lines of a Donne, a Bronte or a Tennyson, but deeper and a bit more ominous; in the spirit of Poe. Certainly, she will develop a macabre following of seekers of truth, of knowledge and devoted believers. Certainly she will become their humble leader through the fires of hell, the chaos of anarchy and through the veil, where only those who ring with a higher frequency may enter. I am one of those who hope to accompany her to paradise." - Reverend Kashi Golia Ranganathan'''''' ' ' '' "I just received my copy of Mystic Verses, signed in blood by the author! That should tell you something about the author and this book's contents. It is just as engrossing as Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses (except Mr. Rushdie's verses were taken from the Koran and Ms. Clayton's from spiritual beings in other dimensions). I read the book before purchasing it. A friend had a copy and shared it with me. I was so blown away by the pure magic within those poems (verses, as she refers to them) and I could not let them go. I had to have my own copy. She asked me how I'd like it signed, dedicated, etc. and I answered, just sign your name in blood and I'll be ecstatic for the rest of this lifetime. She did!" - Madonna Mordue''' "I have read the mystic writings of M Teresa Clayton for over twelve years, it still amazes me how she gleans the future with such accuracy. I consider myself a skeptic, however, I have made an exception for this lady. Her sources must be divinely channeled. - A, J. Aukland, Jr., Author''' '' ''' ''"She seduces you like a dancer of the seven veils''. She captures your attention and holds it in a hypnotic spell until she is ready to blow your mind. She manifests herself in ways that confound logic, yet opens up a pure understanding of what is not. She has written a book that will, no doubt, become the next big cult reading. Her keen ability to translate what her beings tell her, yet keep it buried beneath the occult to preserve its power, makes her all the more interesting. Prepare yourselves for what is to come. As she would say - once you know something you cannot un-know it. - Go ahead, open that Pandora's Box, take a look inside and be prepared to enter into her realm and come out as something quite divine." - Mary Ellen Curtwright, Clairvoyant and Priestess of the Coven Oracle of Orion.'''' ' "These days, there haven't been many poets that compare to the greats of the past''', there doesn't seem to be anything to differentiate them, make any one stand out from the rest, there is nothing uniquely impressive about today's poets. Is it any wonder that the art of poetry has lost its appeal? Then comes a woman who commands the verses to speak unimaginable things, and she has created new ways to write them. This is a whole other genre of poetry and that might be due to her muses. She hears the voices of spirits who bring her messages from the beyond. She then sits in a trance-like state and begins to compose verses containing the information entrusted to her. Maybe poetry readings are not obsolete after all. Maybe the art of writing verses hasn't been lost; it has been changed! It has evolved and I like it." - Gregory Allen Helms, reviewer for The Vine.'''' Two words: Salmon Rushdie - (No one is hunting her down for blasphemy against their personal god. Let's hope no one feels the need. Her work is beyond the reaches of most minds, though the poetry is beautifully written in complex rhyme schemes and worthy of the reading on those criteria alone. Deciphering the message requires dedication, concentration, and the willingness to commit to the work. - Esther Rivke Soronsohn''' ''' Mystic Verses. I had no idea what that meant until I was introduced to Ms. Clayton at a reading in St. Louis. The concept of a mystic verse sounds like something you'd find in a fortune teller's back room. I was a bit taken with her. She is easy to speak with and full of bizarre, if not insane, thoughts that she is quite comfortable discussing in any group setting. ''I fell under the influence of her enchantment after listening to her read from her works and then answer the myriad of questions that followed without batting an eye. She understands her truth and it was that truth that called to me several years ago. ''Now, I am a devotee of this strange woman with her inner-voices. She seems as sane as anyone else I've ever met and to be honest, she seems to be teaching us all something new about ourselves and this world we call home. ''The poetry in her book is artistry. Yes, I'm an old man and I've read the best of them, but right now, I am sitting in the presence of a woman who will be celebrated. Maybe she knows this, maybe she has no idea what will come of her and her writings. I think I'll gamble that she knows it. She is humble but that does not mean she is not aware. - Terrence Donovan Marcway, Antique Book Collector

By junesister I always appreciate the straightforward style of Lonely Planet Guides. This thoughtful, thorough guide has been recently updated and addresses the ongoing tensions and safety issues in Egypt and surrounding countries. Its detailed recommendations for sightseeing, attractions and hotels are topnotch and I feel assured that my upcoming group tour will be truly exciting and safe.

Not the Equal of the Rough Guide By George Purcell I just returned from an independent trip to Egypt and had both this and the (older) Rough Guide with me. Over the course of two weeks the Rough Guide was constantly in my day pack while the LP, with much less information, stayed back at my hotel. The Rough Guide simply has more content--more descriptions, more maps, more detail in describing the historical sites in the country. While the LP isn't actively bad, the RG is simply a superior product.

The book was helpful, but the one thing it left out was how FRIENDLY Egyptians are. So friendly, and not as conservative as it seemed they would be from this book.

It is a great message for teens and parents. It is a short read and well worth it. Of course I am biased because she is my daughter, but anyone who knows me knows I am honest. She was inspired by her cousin, Angela, to write this book. Read it from front to back and don't skip to then end. You will be surprised.

A masterpiece of imaginative cartography, artist Stephen Walter's detailed maps of London reveal much more about the city than its winding streets and historic buildings. London's streets, built up over more than two thousand years, are a maze of history, cultures, and stories. In his fantastically detailed maps of the city, Stephen Walter translates these elements into a tangle of insightful yet humorous words and symbols that make up a complex of hidden meanings and wider contradictions. Testament to Walter's skill and importance as a cartographer, his groundbreaking, oversized map The Island was one of only two contemporary works to feature in the seminal Magnificent Maps exhibition held at the British Library in 2010, the other by Grayson Perry, alongside hugely important historical maps, such as Pierre Desceliers's 1550 world map. The work, which reimagines London as an insular body of land surrounded by water, has been reconfigured and turned into Walter's own version of a London street atlas, with readers able to explore his unique vision of the city by flicking through the pages. A grid at the front of the book lets readers navigate their way through the map and the large-scale reproductions allow for close examination of his witty depictions. Walter's maps have a cult following and now a wider audience will be able to immerse themselves in his personal vision that both celebrates the art of cartography and pokes intelligent fun at the city he calls home.

Review "The Island: London Mapped is an atlas like no other. Artist Stephen Walter has hand-drawn the A-Z within the M25 to create a parallel universe in which Chiswick becomes Cheesewick and Hampstead Homestead. History meets sociology meets comedy in myriad annotations...It's easy to lose yourself for hours." Evening Standard, 3rd December 2015.

Its very hard to read and it looks like it was quickly done. It is impressive that he mapped the whole of London in this way, but nothing really stands out enough that you find it exciting to find in the book and everything is just sort of dull in the depictions.I am a huge fan of London books, but this one is one you can pass up. I suppose if you are a huge fan of maps, you might have an interest in what he has done, but if you are just a fan of London, this book really won't interest you at all.

The premise is clever, but I can't imagine who'd stick with it after a page or two -- it's pretty much illegible. I realize that it's for browsing around in, but it just doesn't work; starts to feel like being trapped in an OCD mind. A real disappointment.

Santiago, with its deeply evolved and extremely active underground graffiti scene, bursts at the seams with an abundance of eye-popping, jaw-dropping murals. Stencil graffiti artist Lord K2 documents 14 neighborhoods within the capital of Chile with his arresting photography and intimate conversations with local artists. Through more than 200 images and 80 interviews, learn how street art was influenced by American, European, and Brazilian graffiti and how its evolution runs parallel to the political history of the nation itself. During the Cold War, nationalist muralist brigades spread socialist idealism through symbols of power and oppression. Santiago's repressed lower classes gradually usurped the art form, and murals eventually became a weapon of resistance. This vibrant city, with its array of distinct cultural districts, now invites you to experience its fascinating and tightly knit artistic community that has flourished since the fall of Pinochet's dictatorship in 1990.

Street Art Santiago, by Lord K2

Review "With informative quotes from the artists and excellent contextual photos, Lord K2's Street Art Santiago exhaustively documents the Chilean scene neighborhood by neighborhood from paint illegally tossed against a wall to enormous, skillfully executed murals."  Martha Cooper"A great insight into the vibrant and extensive Santiago de Chile graffiti and mural scene". Pablo AravenaIn recent years Chilean graffiti has come into the global spotlight with many artists and enthusiasts journeying to cities such as Valparaiso and Santiago to discover what makes this particular corner of the street art world so visually exciting. Lord K2’s new book Street Art Santiago is a wonderful piece of documentary journalism, which explores the cities rich mural art history through its strong political tradition of Latin-American Muralism to the vibrant street art movement in action today. This documentation is made particularly rewarding by the interviews given by the artists who share their lives, ideas and working methods in an intimate social and cultural record. Through the artists voices the book becomes an enlightening and often exhilarating journey that delivers an honest and powerful understanding of the processes and culture of street art. Above all the images from the barrios speak for themselves. Santiago is a city influx – ancient facades meet new developments and abandoned buildings shelter layer upon layer of murals, reflecting the life of the city in a unique way - making it an irresistible visual feast and an essential street art destination” Tristan Manco"With his keen eye, acute intellect and boundless passion, Lord K2 takes us on a remarkable foray into Chile's rich street art scene. In addition to showcasing an extraordinary array of urban interventions, Street Art Santiago features interviews that provide insights into the minds of the artists, as well as into the distinct history of Chilean graffiti and the society that fosters it." Lois Stavsky'With outstanding photography and unfiltered interviews, Lord K2 documents the vibrant and colorful street art and graffiti scene in one of the worlds most richly evolved urban art Meccas.' By luciefuentes I was discussing Design and Art with a graphic designer from Ecuador recently, who was having the same thoughts that these artists in this awesome book.Latin America has taken some time to figure out what were their artistic and cultural roots because they were often copying what was done in America. And when you see the richness of the drawings and paintings represented in this book, it's a very good thing that artists are coming back to their country artistic richness and beautyI've really enjoyed the quotes that explain the personal vision of street art and graffiti from the different artists. Personally, using art to brighten a neighborhood and children views, it's a great way to express your creativity. This book told you about Art and especially the varity encountered and expressed in Santiago, Chile.Really like how it was written and made.A great one!Lucienewbooksonmyselves.blogspot.fr

For all our soldiers past and present... We have all been touched by war at some time during our lives. Whether it be a grandfather who served during WWII or a brother who is currently serving in Afghanistan. Or maybe a friend of a friend, who is deployed somewhere in the world doing their best to serve their country. War inevitably affects each and every one of us, maybe not always directly but certainly indirectly. My collection of poetry is for all our soldiers past and present, living or dead. They are all brave heroes and should never be forgotten, for the hard job they have been or are faced with on a daily basis. This collection is also for the lovers, mothers, sisters and brothers who get left behind. The innocent will always need protecting...

PoemsMilitary Boots. It must be well over 40 years since I read any poetry but I will now read more often.Military Boots was a fantastic read, bringing the state of war home to your thoughts. The author has an incredible talent for making you feel part of the wording, although I am glad I wasn't involved in any part of these wars.I am sure you will enjoy this read as much as I did.5stars. 25 September 2013"

Torrens has captured something quite rare--an emotion where only her heart could go. The tales that both of her late grandfather's told her as a child resonated with her. One was an infantry soldier on the front-lines who fought in WWII on the beaches of Normandy, while her other grandfather was a fighter pilot in the same war is the real story--they both survived--somehow. But now, they are gone--Dawn is the new guard and their voice. She is also the voice of other downed warriors who have served and for those soldiers that continue to serve. They are all our heroes, and the reason we are free men and women. Thank you... Heart and Mind (Contemporary poetry)

By Cathy Truly touching, and immensely powerful words.I learned of the author's writings through her blog when I first read the poem, WOUNDED SOLDIER - especially, since I had just returned from a motorcycle ride honoring those that had been wounded. As a staunch supporter of the troops, the words of that poem jumped off the page and into my heart. I read a few other poems in support of the troops on her blog, each one conveying different emotions, and was excited to learn the author was compiling them into an Anthology of Poetry. Anyone reading the poems will be emotionally touched by the words, but especially those that have served, have family members and friends serving, or who have served in the past. You don't have to know anyone in the military, or even be a huge fan of poetry to understand the sacrifices military members and their families make, as those sacrifices are visually seen through the words the author conveys through the poems in Military Boots. I look forward to the printed version. It will make an awesome gift to family and friends that have served.

A Tramp Abroad, by Mark Twain

Review ''[A Tramp Abroad] is delicious, whether you open it at the sojourn in Heidelberg, or the voyage down the Neckar on a raft, or mountaineering in Switzerland, or the excursion beyond the Alps into Italy.'' --William Dean Howells''Twain was the first writer to elevate the American vernacular to a high art. Sidestepping the starched-shirt diction of his peers, he created an idiom that resembled (but did not precisely duplicate) the wayward, slangy, ungrammatical music of American conversation.'' --Amazon.com editorial review

From the Inside Flap In "A Tramp Abroad, Mark Twain's unofficial sequel to "The Innocents Abroad, the author records his hilarious and diverse observations and insights while on a fifteen-month walking trip through Central Europe and the Alps. "Here you have Twain's inimitable mix," writes Dave Eggers in his Introduction, "of the folksy and the effortlessly erudite, his unshakable good sense and his legendary wit, his knack for the easy relation of a perfect anecdote, and some achingly beautiful nature writing." This Modern Library Paperback Classic reproduces the text of the first American edition and features new explanatory notes and a critical Afterword by Kerry Driscoll, professor of English at Saint Joseph College in Connecticut.

An underrated book that at times is absolutely hilarious By Paul H "A Tramp Abroad" is a humorous account of Mark Twain's travels in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It is part travel guide, part commentary on European culture, and part tall tale. Like many of Twain's less-known works, "A Tramp Abroad" is rather uneven -- the chapters in the book range from rather boring to laugh-out-loud funny. Yet on balance, the humorous moments make up for the dull moments, and the majority of the less humorous chapters are still interesting. Apart from a few slow chapters, it provides a good read from beginning to end. Some of the highlights of "A Tramp Abroad" are Twain's exaggerated account of his ascent of the Riffelberg (a mountain in the Swiss Alps), his comments on the peculiarities of the German language, and a hilarious episode in which Twain spends half an hour pretending to know a woman who remembers him though he doesn't remember her.I have read most of Twain's works, and in my opinion "A Tramp Abroad" is not his best work, but it is definitely one of his most underrated books. It is not as good as his most popular works of fiction (i.e., Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn), nor is it as good as "Life on the Mississippi." But I found it to be the most entertaining of his purely travel-oriented books (the other books in that category being "The Innocents Abroad" and "Following the Equator"). The bottom line is that if you are a fan of Mark Twain's style, then you should find this book to be well worth reading. Finally, if you are going to read "A Tramp Abroad," I highly recommend obtaining a version that contains all 328 of the original illustrations. While I normally would make this recommendation for any of Twain's works, it is especially important for this book since the text makes several references to the illustrations, and since some of the jokes in the text would not make sense without the illustrations. The only current edition I know of that definitely contains *all* of the original illustrations is the Oxford Mark Twain edition (ISBN 0195101375). Also, the Modern Library Classics edition (ISBN 0812970039) apparently has retained some of the original illustrations, since it contains a note stating that "... some illustrations have been omitted" (thus implying that some have not been omitted). I would assume that this edition has retained those illustrations which are essential to the humor, but I can't say for sure since I don't actually have it.

Journeysknown as Grand Tours led tourists to take ship to the Continent. They fanned out across thelandscape with the intent to "know Europe." Their return home resulted in a flurry ofpublished accounts. Twain satirizes both the tourists and their writings with deliciouswit. Ever a man to play with words, his "tramp" refers to both himself and the walking tourof Europe he purports to have made. By the time you've reached the end of the account of the"walking tour" incorporating trains, carriages and barges, you realize that the longest "walk"Twain took occurred in dark hotel room while trying to find his bed. He claims to havecovered 47 miles wandering around the room.Twain was interested in everything, probing into both well-known and obscure topics. Hisjudgments are vividly conveyed in this book, standing in marked contrast to his morereserved approach in Innocents Abroad. A delightful overview of mid-19th Century Europe,Tramp is also interlaced with entertaining asides. Twain was deeply interested in people, andvarious "types" are drawn from his piercing gaze, rendered with acerbic wit. Some of theseare contemporary, while others are dredged from his memories of the California mines andother journeys. He also relished Nature's marvels, recounting his observations. A favouriteessay is "What Stumped the Blue-jays." A nearly universal bird in North America, Twain'sdescription of the jay's curiosity and expressive ability stands unmatched. He observes suchhumble creatures as ants, Alpine chamois, and the American tourist. Few escape hisperception or his scathing wit. This book remains valuable for its timeless rendering ofcharacters and the universality of its view. It can be read repeatedly for education orentertainment.

Barometer Soup By JOHN ANDREW ABEL I have not read Twain since High School twenty five plus years ago but a friend on a newspapers book forums got me to read him again and A Tramp Abroad is the first book I picked. For the current generation this book may drag but for those of us who grew up reading books instead of playing computer games this is Twain at his best. One has to actually read into his writing to appreciate a lot of the irony but when this book is really on like the mountain climbing near the Matterhorn ,Twain makes Seinfeld seem like he's talking about something. A brilliant travel essay and by the way the Penguin Classics edition of this book in paperback is 411 pages long, not 670 pages .

This book is about one of the most celebrated artists in the seventeenth century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Now, Bernini is considered one of the best sculptors of the baroque style. Even In his own lifetime, Bernini’s contemporaries thought he was one of the most important artists that ever lived. However, this love for the man and his work has not always been this strong. Even Bernini himself knew that his reputation would worsen after his death, something he got right. Only very recently has Bernini’s reputation improved. After his death, the baroque style went out of fashion and Bernini’s art was considered vulgar and exaggerated. In the last 150 years, art historians and critiques really disliked the work of Bernini. Fortunately, this period is over. Today, we see Bernini for what he really was. He was one of the most influential and prolific artists of his day. His influence on the baroque style has been enormous. He has been an incredibly original artist and one of the few artists that still can touch you emotionally with his work. In this biography I will show you all the great art of Bernini and place his art in the context of the time it was created.

Along the Way - Book Four - Welcome to the Straits of Georgia!, by Teresa Schapansky

About the Author As a child, author Teresa Schapansky spent days on end reading fantasy and fairy tale stories. Back then, she never dreamt she'd actually write one. Her inspiration came much later in the form of her daughters, whom she names as co-conspirators in the writing of her first two novels. Her first novel, "Imogene of the Pacific Kingdom" opened a few doors for the author. Radio and television interviews, school visits, library visits, a stint freelance reporting for a local newspaper, until the author's second book, "Dager of the Tasman Empire" found its way to the surface. The author has since joined forces with Bob Winterford, Eye Wonder Studios Publishing Inc. and together, they have created the 12 book "Along the Way" series for younger children.

The facts about emergencies By Grady Harp Canadian author Teresa Schapansky enters the world of children’s books with a very thoughtful and entertaining series entitled ALONG THE WAY. Thus far there are five books with hopefully more to come. The illustrations are by Ken Golden. Teresa is a sharp journalist and a popular speaker in schools and other gatherings and her early love for stories lead to books before she finally decided to write this series. As an introduction to the entire series Teresa states,’ In our books you’ll find short stories, and you’ll meet ordinary, everyday children who face ordinary, everyday problems; read along as our new friends learn how to best solve such problems. We’ll go on make believe road trips and come across some pretty amazing facts that deal with different cultures, exciting history, geography, horticulture, science, and more. Most importantly, ALONG THE WAY books are dedicated to encouraging children to broaden their horizons – be all they can be – al the while, sharpening reading skills which are in fact, necessary, as they embark on this fantastic path to lifelong learning.’And then we again meet our host Albertosaurus (aka Albert) a dinosaur who opens this little volume with more dinosaurology information – he believes that offering tidbits about dinosaurs and prehistoric times helps us remember the facts. This time he delves into the marine reptiles that were also dinosaurs and reminds us that the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta has one of the largest collections of prehistoric plants and many dinosaur skeletons. And after a little information about Vancouver – the great influx of different people from many lands who immigrated for religious freedom, escape from slavery and discrimination. Many North Americans are descendants of these early pioneers. Then the story comes and our friends form Book 1 – Jade and Ben – who had moved to a new town where they made new friends like Nana Lee who brought cookies to their new home. Jade and Ben become close to Nana Lee, visiting her often, but one day on a visit there was no answer at the door and the house was dark. They find Nana Lee on the floor, helped her up and called 911 and when the paramedic come they make friends and receive encouragement and thanks for their good deed of calling 911. Now they have learned about uniforms and emergencies and how to respond. The part three is a trip from Vancouver to Tsawwassen on a ferry across the mighty Straits of Georgia, past Salt Spring Island and other of the gulf islands. Albert closes with a bit more Dino Trivia just to keep us on our toes and the book ends on a farewell note, anticipating the next Along the Way.Teresa continues to educate and entertain us and improve vocabulary and knowledge of history and prehistoric times. Join her! Grady Harp, June 15

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps." Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A stunning debut, it marks John Green's arrival as an important new voice in contemporary fiction.

Okay, it's short and incredibly good, which makes it easy to bolt down. But then you are going to feel like an idiot for not savoring the pleasure, and you're going to be bleary as hell the next day (if you finish it at 4 in the morning, like I did). This book deals with the Big Ones: suffering, loss, and grief, but it does so with such compassion and humor that the net impact is uplifting. Even the principal turns out to be a human being. There are no cardboard cut-out characters here.Be aware that the kids in this story do what kids actually do (smoke, drink, and have sex). If that bothers you, read it anyway. There are more important things in life than observing proprieties and pretending that bright kids aren't exploratory. You don't have to approve of these characters. It is enough to love them and learn from them.

Titone Somewhere between searching for the secret to winning at Texas Holdem in Doyle Brunson's SUPER SYSTEM II, A COURSE IN POWER POKER, and envying a 101 year old lady boat captain in Jimmy Buffett's A SALTY PIECE OF LAND, I found John Green's Young Adult Novel, LOOKING FOR ALASKA.I kept looking at the alluring cover of ALASKA on my night stand and decided that POWER POKER could wait and rushed through A SALTY PIECE.If you have a child going to boarding school soon, goes there now or has gone there, as my son did, you must read LOOKING FOR ALASKA. If you want to understand the loneliness, happiness, mischief, joy, sorrow, sadness and a few other emotions of a teenager, you must read LOOKING FOR ALASKA. If you are convinced your teenager will not mature until much later, you better not read ALASKA. If you are concerned about the experiences that your teenager might have, do not read ALASKA. If you are a teenager, read this book!Need help with a pair of Aces? Simple - see Doyle. Got Margaritaville on your mind? No problem - Jimmy is your man. But if you want to come of age with an extraordinarily endearing group of kids, read this book.My son tells me it is being touted as Young Adult Fiction. I don't know about that. I can only tell you that at 64, I am a younger man for having read it.

A brilliant YA debut with an authentic voice about life lessons in a boarding school By Jessica Lux Green's debut YA novel follows a year in the life of high school junior Miles Halter, a friendless Floridian who begged his parents to enroll him in the Culver Creek boarding school. Miles dreams of starting anew at his elite Alabama prep school, of finding Francois Rabelais's "The Great Perhaps." At school, he falls in with a prankster of a roommate, the Colonel, and the sassy, sexy, messed-up Alaska Young. For an unforgettable 128 days, Miles learns life lessons in love, loyalty, friendship, literature, and poetry, as well as experiences the thrill of a first girlfriend. When tragedy strikes Culver Creek, Miles is forced to undertake an even closer examination of his own character and relationship with his friends. This is an outstanding coming-of-age novel that has already proved to be a favorite teen read. It doesn't resort to a cop out of a "happily ever after" ending, but the characters each seek closure on their own terms. The characters are well-drawn, witty, and full of individual quirks and spunk. Green even manages to bring in the reality of cigarettes and alcohol without a preachy or over-glorifying tone. This novel has won the Teen's Top 10 award as well as the Printz Award, and Green is well on his way to YA superstardom. I'm looking forward to his next novel.
