A melodious collection of verse By Ramona I found a few morsels worth taking note of and keeping in my journal as I read Wonders That We See: A Poetry Collection by Crystal Harrell. As a poetry writer myself, her introduction pulled at my soul with a resonance I would only be able to explain in verse.Lines like “…violins weep because no one hears their pleading song, dandelions float in search of the forgotten, and tortured souls are also misguided souls…” beckon me to join them just to see what my pen dares to find in the depths of their meaning. And while not every poem or line grabbed me and screamed at me to take a bite, there were a couple that I would gladly hold on to; My Sanctum, for example, where:I keep all secrets hidden in realms of thought…But still peer through windows covered in stained glass…These lines call on the poetry therapy facilitator in me.They draw me into the waiting embrace of pen and paper, to answer these thoughts as though they were prompts to help me share my innermost feelings. I even saw myself crafting them into some grand writing workshop, daring participants to draw upon their experiences and “peer through windows covered in stained glass” to see the beauty within. In Tricks of the Trade I am drawn into the desire to dip into my bag of dreams to see what I would “…trade to join a traveling shadow show…” and in Wonders That We See, I am the one “…Whispering to bits of angel dust floating by chapel’s light…” while “…Conversations are tossed about like discarded liquor bottles at the tavern.”Even having found some gems to hold on to, I did feel as though some of the poems were like carefully crafted Wiccan spells that didn’t quite their mark.If you can get past that, however, and the fact that rhyme and meter sometimes don’t match, you will find that overall, Wonders That We See: A Poetry Collection is not a bad read and rather melodious in nature.I received this book free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I wish her success in her writing and recommend that her works be read with interest By Elizabeth Ann Johnson-Murphree Crystal Harrell's poetry flows in the language of many 18th Century poets. I found her basic writing style to be that of H.P. Lovecraft, his writing was enveloped in mystic mystery, uncanny and in the times he "walked to a different drummer" than most writers. Ms. Harrell possesses the thought process of someone much older and with much more experience that her young years. This first collection was an outstanding piece of work that will remind many of us of the old Master's of writing from the 1700 - 1800 's. I wish her success in her writing and recommend that her works be read with interest. Ann Johnson-Murphree at www.ajmurphree.wordpress.com and Kindle and paperbacks at Amazon
