“Death is the great disruptor; it thrusts us opposite life’s mirror, invites our truthful exploration, and reveals the naked truth; from which rebirth is possible and we are free to reinvent ourselves anew.” Death and Life is the first poetry book by Bianca Bowers. Take a voyage through various psychological, emotional, and spiritual experiences to discover why death is not isolated to physical loss, but extends to figurative deaths that arise from larger themes such as feminism, abuse, depression, love, exile, belonging and more. “Change blows through the branches of our existence and fortifies the roots on which we stand.”

Tremendous and deep By Dustin Botta B G is amazing. All I can say is this. Her voice, her tone, her cadence is truly magnificent.Look:"Cul-de-sac connections -I will not let them in""A red-billed gulleruptsinto a shrill cry, break wide openhead rolled backinto the downy nook of its neck"And "Merlot Heart" - OH!!One only rarely finds such penetrating and perfected poetry.B G examines the full cycle: from life to death, and death, and death to lifewith such fantastic grace and emotion, that you'll at once feel you are readingyour own thoughts on those passages.B G 's poetry encompasses the beautyof staring at the ceilingwhere light and dark mixwith the glow of chemical and hormone andraw, burnt cindering sentimentteasing and sensualdark and distantconfiscate your being. Each poem draws you inTo feelings and experiences you recognizeand remember as your very own. It's like reading a refined journalThat you wrote long ago-- one that touches you to the coreand captures everything you ever thoughtyou knew of the mystery oflife and deathand love.Perfection!Amazing perfection!

As I delved into this I was taken by surprise at the myriad of emotions that I experienced. I was deeply saddened, I smiled so broadly that it lit a room, I laughed and I cried, memories of my own so long lost were rekindled. While Death and Life is clearly divided into Death, and then Life, your emotions won't follow that divide so clearly. My last exposure to poetry was many years ago and I simply didn't get it. This was a completely difference experience. Death and Life is different as throughout its pages, you can draw parallels to your own life and experiences. Reading these poems and essays has personally allowed me a new perspective on some of my life experiences, seeing goodness where none had existed before. Death and Life will stay with you long after you close the cover, taking lessons from within forward into your everyday life.

This is good poetry.I've not only read Death and Life, I lived with it, savored it. This feast of emotion and imagery deserves more than a quick sampling.B.G. Bowers shares her journey with such honesty that one cannot help but be in the moment with her. I suffered her loss, heartbreak and anguish and was rewarded with liberation, self-reflection and love. Some Favorite Poems:_Death_Mortal GirlHunterHostagePerforatedFailed_Life_A Long WayProposalMaraThe KissPurple Hibiscus
