Kendal Everly: A Story of the American Civil War", spins the tale of conflict from the opposing side this time, but with equally powerful images, tracing the journey of an intellectual Yankee school teacher from the quiet countryside into the mouth of hell.Summer's masterful use of language transports the reader into places that he would not otherwise wish to go, but from which, once there, he cannot escape. It is a harrowing odyssey through the psyche of an ordinary man coming to grips with the stark reality of mental and physical devastation. It is an emotionally challenging but spellbinding and gripping read . . . one that should not be missed.
