However, I had to put it down many times to sob or to seek distraction from the beauty and aching sadness. Susan Lewis has written a phenomenal book detailing the death and most importantly, life of her Mama. After finishing the book and drying all my tears I realized how inspirational and cleansing Goodbye, Mama really is. If such beauty, grace and love can rise from such horrible circumstances, who am I to complain about anything?Goodbye, Mama should be a must read for anyone who has ever faced any kind of adversity or loss in their own life. You will be a better person for having read this wonderful expression of love.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding! By Ronald W. Tew Susan Lewis' book is one of the most intensely emotional pieces I've read. She alternates short prose vignettes from her childhood and her adulthood with moving poetry. Emotions run the gamut in this memoir and remembrance. Protected from a physically abusive father by her mother, Susan is loved and loves with equal intensity. Anyone who has survived a dysfunctional family only to lose the nurturing parent will both weep and rejoice at the sorrows and joys shared in this well crafted book.

Second Hundred and Sixty-three Poems is a book of poetry written between August 1963 and March 1967 while the author was in college. "Heart and Mind" is simply a beautiful view of the world we live in. The author has obviously lived a life that most will never experience. Her profound understanding and insight into her lifelong experiences shine through in every poem. My late grandfather fought in World War II and the poem that had the most impact on me personally was titled, "This World Belongs To No One." A profound statement that has meaning beyond anyone living on this planet. Torrens captures in words what many are thinking in a way that can only be described as insightful beyond measure. Thank you for sharing a part of your life. I look forward to much more by this amazing author.

Torrens is a beautiful recollection of thoughts and feelings experienced and reflected on in life. Each poem has an invaluable lesson and perspective from which to learn and grow. The author takes the time necessary to organize their thoughts expertly, teaching life lessons both good and bad throughout. To describe this book of poetry I would say it's REAL. Thanks Torrens for letting us in.

True Beauty By Garrison Haines-Temons The bond between grandmother and granddaughter has never been clearer than in this book of poetry from both authors. They shared emotions, beliefs, moments, and most importantly, they shared life together. Ms. Anette Suggs will be surely missed, but this book of poetry will keep her memory immortalized until time itself is standing still. No topic is off limits, yet the innocence of it all is maintained throughout this read.Just like with our favorite music, it’s always nice if the poetry we read is relatable and pretty much every poem in this book speaks to our souls. When you forget who you are and need to be reminded, try “I Am”. When you’ve lost your innocence and your flower is wilting, the poem is actually titled “Innocence”. When you’re fearing for the life of your child because he or she fell on the pavement, you’ve got “Impact”.And then there’s a poem called “Wasted Emotions”, which is about how romantic couples grow apart over time and its no less heartbreaking when the end is near. “Wasted Emotions” is special to me because Ashley Uzzell posted it in the message board of one of my own Deviant Art poems called “A Love Song to No One”, which harbors the same sorrowful feelings. I’m not sure if her poem was inspired by mine, but whatever the case, I will always clutch it to my heart. There’s something for everyone in this poetry book. All you have to do is read it all the way through, which shouldn’t be hard considering it’s less than 50 pages.The individual poems themselves, whether written by grandmother or granddaughter, are written with a clear and concise meter that makes reading them out loud or singing them onstage a piece of cake. Not all of them have rhyming verses, but it shouldn’t matter because the poems are enjoyable and rhythmic anyways. There’s a disclaimer in the front of the book that says some of this poetry was written in the mid-1990’s, which means Ashley Uzzell was only a child, yet she writes like someone who has been doing this for a long, long time. To tell you the truth, I wish I had her and her grandmother’s skills when I was starting out writing poetry in 2004.Anette Suggs passed away and left behind a legacy that will last forever in the hearts and minds of those who got to know her, either personally or literarily. As I write this review, Ashely Uzzell is 30 years old and still has a bright future ahead of her. I have no doubts that those many decades will be used for creating even more beauty than we’ve seen in her poetry book. I’m not saying that as her personal friend; I’m saying it as a lover of literature, which is the real reason this book gets a passing grade.

I thought that a book with poetry would be boring, but it was better then what I thought! I would gladly recommend this book to my friends!

About the Author My name is Jon Thomas Turner and I usually go by Jon or Jon Thomas. So if you meet me you'll know! I've played a fair amount of roles in my life. Honors student, school paper writer/editor, writer for The Greenville News, U.S. Navy enlisted man, student at Atlanta Institute of Music, but at 21 years of age I had a terrible car accident after running off a steep curb going 90-100 mph. I hit a tree sideways and sustained a broken back /severed spinal cord at T11/T12 and a traumatic brain injury. I am paralyzed for life (unless a great medical cure comes along) and my TBI took years to fully heal. I've also had severe mental illness since I was 18. I've had more help than. You can imagine and though I've got d-o-w-n at times I've always gotten back up to show not my family, not the world, but myself that I wasn't done and that I could still live out my dream. What dream is that? You're looking at it. I've wanted to be a published author for the last ten years and now I am fortunate enough to have written “I'm Still Here”, my debut, and now “Dante's First Dream”, by far my most ambitious collection of poems to date (I have other work published online). In my mid-twenties I wrote two novel length works and many short stories but after turning to poetry at age 27 I haven't looked back. I thank you very much for your interest in the work that is my passion and I hope you are more than satisfied with it after all is read and done. Love, Jon.

It highlights sightseeing places and things to do in Hawaii. I appreciate that ach place of interest is described in detail that makes you imagine being there and want to go there to see the place yourself. This book helped a lot to plan our family vacation in Hawaii. If you're planning a trip to Hawaii, it's best to refer to this book and get your trip planning organized with it.

The author introduces a few of the highlights of the most tourist visited areas of Honolulu. It is a short book. He gives some historical detail on each site and comments on each that you get a spectacular view. This book is good for a very introductory overview of a few sites on Oahu and leaves you wanting more. Still, I wouldn't skip it.
