John Seymour Eldridge began writing poetry and lyrics in Seattle, during the social revolution of the 60’s, when the war in Vietnam was causing turbulent times in the lives of a generation of flower children around the world. The Spiritual leaders of that revolution, our poets and songwriters, were calling for profound changes from within the young men and women in their expansive, Self-aware audience. John Seymour Eldridge, known as “Jack” to his friends, became a conscientious objector to the draft. He was arrested and jailed by the Fbi for his beliefs.

After his release from prosecution by the Aclu, John lived on the beaches of Hawaii for a year. He was working as a fine dining waiter in the plush hotels of Kailua Kona on the Big Island. Responding to a job offer from the owners of Channel 13 Television, he returned to Seattle and became instrumental in the creation of a well-received Arts & Entertainment Guide for Seattle/Tacoma and the greater Puget Sound area. His expertise was also tapped for work as a Talent Coordinator for Live Programming at the independent Tv station.

Thus began a career in journalism, covering music and the arts, which encompassed editing and publishing several newspapers, producing video workshops for prominent authors, and the management of a Self-awareness book publishing company. Today, at the age of 70 years young, John continues to write poetry and lyrics, with warmth and sensitivity, that express the insights he has experienced on the Way of Being. This book, Tripping up the Basement Stairs before Dawn, is a result of his awakening.

There is a depth to the words that speak essential truths and relate experiences that we all share. There are no gimmicks or pretentiousness here - only honest attempts to convey the complexities of relationships, love, desire, passion, disappointment, and the journey through it all. An up-and-coming poet that may not be well known yet, but keep an eye on this one.

As part of our job we were always encouraged to study history to see how people thought and wars were executed. No war is ever the same so what we are reading to learn is the why. There is also how people responded to different tactics and strategies.I found this easy to read as the translation made it appear like we were reading today's news. Not just the actins but the politics of the time. There are great descriptions of the time and place. The only thing that is missing is visual maps to put the places in perspective. Luckily you can get maps of the time off the net as a supplement.I have a paperback edition which is easily navigated and you can place sticky notes in. I also have a kindle version which you can put book marks in. the problem with the kindle is the text-to-speech has a horrible time translating place and people names. The advantage of the kindle is it moves you forward so you do not doddle. I am contemplating a hard copy for the library and reverence.There is enough detail that it may require a second reading after you have digested the first. I am also looking for some good books to tell me what I would have noticed in this book.

Booth I received the book as I had heard about it and it was an Enid local who put it together, but I found the book to be something I did not expect. It seemed to me to be people who chose to be victims of life's hardships and I found little about it that was uplifting or even interesting. It may be some peoples cup of tea but was just not for me. I read the horrors that the different ones endured and I am amazed at the resilience of some By Brenda Salladay While reading this book I could feel the raw emotions of pain, grief, loss, depression and anger. I read the horrors that the different ones endured and I am amazed at the resilience of some, the just getting through the day by others and then the forgiveness that was shown. I could see that healing came through each peeled back layer, as the nightmare of their ordeals were written and shared. The Lemonade Ladies sound like a group that are well on their way to letting go of their pain and ready to show others the process of peeling back the layers!

More than you need to know about visiting San Diego By Amazon Customer San Diego from A to Z: An Alphabetical Guide (Alphabet City Guides Book 2) by Laura RobertsThis book sounded interesting to me as we do travel a bit and like to see the sights and explore new horizons.Starts out with words from the author, why she wanted to write this type of a book.Right from the start by visiting the aquarium the author explains all the extra things you could do, wow why don't the aquariums we've visited around the US have these events?Talk about 'hands on' that's what we do like to do. Even though we are in our 60's we can do things 40 year olds can do and we do like to bring the grandkids and their parents on some of our adventures.Monthly calendar will come in handy when you need just one more thing to do that will connect you to the area as it will be in season.Such facts about the next thing to do, the park and facts tell you it's even bigger than it's counterpart East coast-Central Park. So many things to do there and love that it also gives you the location, street wise and fees for entrance.And some things also show a colorful photo along with giving the photographer credit. Such a wealth of knowledge to have even when you do visit, to be sure to check out gift shops, other events planned, etc.I wonder how many days it will take us to complete seeing the whole book of places one must go see. Besides being outdoors, walking, photographing fun spots, hands-on, nature, new things we like lighthouses and this book has them also!Even a section for those to let their hair loose and walk on the wild side. Other freebies and features are also available and the other works by the author are highlighted at the end.Something for everybody at any age. Enjoyed this book and hope other cities will have their own travel guide by this author. She seems to know the hidden gems and where to find them when traveling.I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
