"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness..." - Mark Twain By Terry Letsche A modern-day Innocents Abroad meets Peter Mayle's series about life in Provence. While I haven't been to France, I have found myself in many of the same situations in my travels. I highly recommend this book not only for its humour, but it is chock full of tips/hints for travel to France. Perhaps the most important thing to pack is one's sense of humour!Disclaimer: I am also a highly satisfied user of Dr. Bingham's "German Survival Guide." I use it as a German language and culture review before my trips to Europe.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I want to travel with her!! By Linda Mccann This was an interesting travel book. It was fun seeing and traveling through the author's eyes. It was interesting to realize even she, who has traveled much more than I, worried about driving or if the credit cards would work!! The areas of history interspersed with the travel adventures made it all more interesting. I really had trouble putting it down. I wanted to see what adventure they would have next! Before I go to Europe, I will be re-reading her books and looking for more hints. Nicely done, and easy to follow along.

By Swissmiss If you think a travel book should include details like not being able to finish your lunch so you have to put it in your friend's backpack for the rest of the day or that McDonald's on the Champs d'Elysée charges $4.50 for a Diet Coke and doesn't give free refills (does any McDo's in the world give free refills?), and that your métro tickets cannot be next to a magnet (day after day after day of this story, quelle bore!), then this is the book for you!If you're looking for a book on how to travel and stand out as an American tourist, then this is the book for you, even though the author claims right from the get-go that she is a sophisticated traveler who wants to blend in and not be pegged as a tourist. Cross-body bags? Hiking sandals? There you go! And for someone who claims to be well-traveled, she should know that Parisians are not in the city in August, they are all on vacation. So yes, all of those others that you were seeing who looked just like you, were just like you. The book is totally obnoxious.
