Accalake County, a rural community, is plagued by a serial arsonist. Each fire is meticulously set and undetected until fully involved. People speculate that drones must be starting these fires as no one could be caught. Others say it's a fireman because the arsonist knows how to get in and out and destroy all the evidence. This story will take you through betrayal, corruption, and an intense desire to cover up the truth, no matter the cost. An ex-con, a single mother of two children, and a sheriff are willing to stop at nothing. Everyone is on a collision course, which ultimately leads to disaster, even death.

Quite interesting By Amazon Customer This book is scattered with urban poetry and tells a heartbreaking story of the destruction that close knit community justice systems cause everyday all across this nation for their own selfish and political gain. It appears to mirror a real life story of recent events and is quite shocking in its revelations. If you have a heart it might make you cry. If you are self righteous and judgmental it may anger you. Either way at the end of it you will be left with questions in your mind and maybe in your heart.

In spite of new freedoms and new therapies love between men and women is not easy. Elizabeth Elliott's fifth book of poetry has three parts: "First Love First Happiness," "In The Schools Of Love," and "Love And Its Interruptions."She writes, "I am too old to speak about First Love in today's world, but sixty years ago first love was about being unable to speak, about innocence and a kind of thrilled fear. It was not about choice so much as about commitment. Until divorce happened it couldn't happen. But a new freedom beckoned beyond the true sadness, actions were signed into a record and then --freedom is scratching at our eager door. Are we prepared for this freedom? NO. Do we learn? I guess." Eighteen poems have been culled from earlier books, thirty-nine poems are new or never been published. Included is a new concept for poetry, -just a word. Here you'll find insights written by the author behind the scenes for each poem. Elizabeth's poetry explores the human condition in our quests for power and truth, for persistence, justice and hope. On our need for individuality, a purpose, and for achieving our goals with courage and persistence. Her poems show us our innocence and our temptations, our gratitude and appreciation, and our freedom. Our struggle to overcome loss and death, evil and harm, war and conflict and to find love and joy with the healing power of our spirit and our psyche. And our capacity to play, to study nature, science, and time, to create art and beauty, to sense the paradox and to experience the transformation of our lives. Here is the poetry of life, and a life of poetry.

Love And Its Interruptions: Poems, by Elizabeth Elliott

Review ' a document in song in the history of woman's evolution. The poems have sprung forth from great depth. A harmony of verse has been achieved an expression of ripeness with special affinities, Anais --Anais Nin

About the Author Elizabeth Elliott spent the early part of her life growing up on an island off the coast of Maine. She writes, From an early age I stood by my mother's chair and in her doorway and watched her paint. How could it not seem completely natural for me to have a pencil in my hand and write? (I still have an encyclopedia I wrote in 1942 when I was ten.) I am the lucky child of four unusual creative parents that were deeply involved in the world (two step-parents were acquired shortly after the end of the war). I asked my father, who had dedicated his life to improve the world once if he thought he'd gotten anywhere. He said he thought of himself as a Johnny Appleseed, dropping seeds of fruitful new ideas that would gradually be picked up, planted and grown. Since then nothing has arisen to deter my love of people, and my love of writing poetry. Unremitting care for the world is my passion. So at the age of 75, having received only rejections for my poetry, I decided to publish my own books, using covers of my own choosing, and writing on the subjects of my life: children and human issues, love and politics, religion and the arts --the world I experience all around me every day so I can share it with my readers. Today Elizabeth still resides on the island off the Maine coast, but also spends her time in the hills of western Massachusetts and the islands of the Florida Keys with her wonderful poetry reading, history minded, art imbued husband. Elizabeth once said that she could feel a poem begin in her core and travel up within her body, down her arm, and out onto the page. And the results, the books she has published and are yet to be published, describe the conflict men and women find in ourselves and with each other, nature, our purpose and goals, our beliefs, and also the hope and healing we find in our spirit as we are transformed by the passage of time.

Five women and a lonely trailer park on the edge of the Mojave Desert...

What sifts beneath the sand are mysteries—a fossilized whale, a particle accelerator, and calculated dreams of escape. Above live five unique women: Hattie, who tries to find her dead mother's face within her own; Kinni, the veiled survivor of Nagasaki; Melody, the orphan who nurses wayward children; Lani, who uses a camera to create distances; and Oxena, who can't decide if she loves or hates her husband of forty years. As the men struggle with the bloodstain of history,  Azimuths  emerges as a story of emotional and physical paralysis. Each character remains on a singular trajectory, yet all are connected as they try to figure out who and why to love, and how to move forward with their lives.

Azimuths, by R.A. Morean

Review R. A. Morean's Azimuths features five women who live in a trailer park on the edge of the Mojave Desert, where there are no seasons. The possibility of change, though, is something this unforgettable cast of characters longs for and fears. The writing is spot on lyrical and full of grit exactly when it needs to be. This is a novel that will stay with you long after the final page. --Lee Martin, author of The Bright Forever, finalist for the Pulitzer PrizeIn the Raceway Trailer Park, Morean has created an indelible American place the kind of place where people of differing backgrounds come together to make a community of choice. A good novel is a self-contained world, full of rich individuals rooted in the American Landscape. Azimuths is just that. --Kevin Haworth, author of The Discontinuity of Small Things, Dayton Literary Peace Prize nominee

Courtney This is my first book-length literary fiction experience and I was fascinated by the character studies of select trailer park inhabitants. The author carefully blends first person points-of-view with third person omniscient POV to capture the true essence of these admittedly off-beat individuals. These people are held hostage by their pasts. On the one hand, we are indeed the culmination of our memories and experiences; they define us. On the other hand, do these experiences help us navigate the future or do they cripple us? There is an eeriness in the prose that is reminiscent of early Stephen King. There is also a bit of sci-fi; I would say very much in the style of Shelley’s Frankenstein. The result: a delightful confluence of forces and perhaps not-so-free free will. Further, bravo for the author’s inclusion of a reading group discussion guide at the end of the book.

By Amazon Customer This book is filled with such keen and exquisitely worded observations – of the desert landscape, of the cast of characters and their flawed, beautiful, complicated relationships – that are so spot on, so exactly right, they caught my breath and made me pause in wonder. I want to go back and find specific sentences so I can savor and absorb them, like I would a favorite line of poetry. The story itself is multi-layered, unusual, unpredictable, and even though I couldn’t always follow the physics, the women, men, and children at the Raceway Trailer Park held my interest and my heart until the last page.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. strange (in the best way), and engaging By GeeKate Azimuths is poetic, thought-provoking, strange (in the best way), and engaging. It manages to be both deeply earthy and somewhat ethereal, if those two descriptions can coexist. Each character is fully realized and somewhat wounded -- physically or emotionally -- and each moves toward healing and reconciliation. While that may sounds like a familiar story, there is nothing trite or predictable in these characters or their journeys. It's a book I will need to come back to in order to sort out all the threads and layers of meaning, and I look forward to doing so.

Pan Tadeusz is an epic poem by the Polish-Lithuanian poet, writer and philosopher Adam Mickiewicz. The book was first published in June 1834 in Paris, and is considered by many to be the last great epic poem in European literature. The story takes place over the course of five days in 1811 and one day in 1812 at a point in Polish history, when Poland-Lithuania had already been divided between Russia, Prussia, and Austria and disappeared from the political map of Europe.

By Aleksandra Miesak Rohde The action takes place in the year before Napoleon prepared to attack Russia in 1812. It is a wonderful read, full of charming characters, surprise plot twists, unrequited love and cultural details of the rural life of Polish nobleman two hundred years ago. This version contains illustrations from the original 1834 publication, giving it an especially fascinating historical context. BTW, this is the English version of the epic Polish poem, much beloved by everyone, although probably less by Polish school children many of whom are required to memorize it (many of whom can still recite it into old age). Enjoy!!

Best Ebook PDF The Not-So-Perfect Man: A Novel, by Valerie Frankel

In Valerie Frankel’s witty novel, a single mother must choose between “the perfect man” or the imperfect one who seems oh-so-right for her.

The decree has been set. It’s time to find Frieda Schast a man….

As far as her family and friends are concerned, Frieda has been the grieving widow for long enough. At 35, she's still (relatively) young, still (adequately) attractive. Her sex drive is very much alive; even Frieda admits she'd like to put it to use again. Besides, she has a son who certainly needs a father figure. With visions of the perfect second husband in mind, Frieda's sisters start to send eligible males in her direction.

Big sister Ilene has found the ultimate unattached catch: a gorgeous, independently wealthy, successful, divorced father, pillar of society and paragon of potential. What more could a single mom ask for? Apparently a lot more than loved ones realize. Frieda's own efforts bear very tasty fruit. Sam is young, talented, devoted, and incredibly sexy—though broke, only sporadically employed, and clueless about kids. But he makes Frieda feel brand-spanking-new, in a most wonderfully wanton way. When all is said and done, does Frieda really need the "perfect man"...or the far-from-ideal man who's perfect for her?

The Not-So-Perfect Man: A Novel, by Valerie Frankel

From Publishers Weekly As hundreds of romantic comedies have driven home to us, familial matchmaking just doesn't work. And nobody knows it better than Frieda Schast. When the 30-something heroine of Frankel's latest girds up her proverbial loins to hit the dating scene again after the death of her beloved husband, Gregg, her sisters have strong ideas regarding suitable prospects. Ilene, the control-freak executive, is determined that Frieda will have the perfect mate (and father for her young son, Justin): handsome, devoted and above all, successful. Betty, an overweight, wisecracking bookstore clerk, thinks Frieda should put more effort into getting laid than in taking a trip down the aisle. Frieda has fallen for a (much) younger and somewhat feckless actor, Sam Hill, but Ilene sets her up with dashing corporate golden boy David-he's nice, he's responsible, who cares if there's no zing? Meanwhile, Ilene is scrambling to resolve her own marital discord, and Betty has been taken on as a DIY improvement project by a charming temporary co-worker. It looks like chaos all around-and despite the feisty Schast sisters' regular summit meetings, nothing is turning out quite as it should. All of this should be charming, but tissue-thin characters and hackneyed plot twists drag the story down. Loyal fans will flock, but new readers will have to look to Frankel's backlist (The Accidental Virgin; Smart vs. Pretty; etc.) for fun and sparkly spring reading. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From Booklist Frieda Schast lost her husband, Gregg, to cancer over a year ago and hasn't been interested in dating--until a sexy actor named Sam Hill walks into her life. Suddenly, she's swept up in a passionate liaison and loving every minute of it. She faces the disapproval of her older sister, Irene, a writer for a business magazine who would like to set Frieda up with her colleague David. Irene is frustrated with her husband, Peter, who needs to lose a good 40 pounds. Frieda's younger sister, Betty, is grappling with her own romantic problems; she's always been overweight and defensive, but when a sexy guy at work breaks through her barriers, she finds herself unexpectedly falling in love. Frieda is so caught up in romantic bliss that she barely notices her sisters' problems until Sam leaves town for an acting job, and Frieda begins to wonder if she's fooling herself about their relationship after all. A charming cast of characters and a delightful plot make Frankel's third novel a winner. Kristine HuntleyCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

Review Praise for The Accidental Virgin: “Stacey Temple’s adventures are often laugh-out-loud funny, making it impossible not to root for Frankel’s plucky, determined heroine.” (Booklist on The Accidental Virgin)“Frankel’s wit and playfulness make the tale scroll right along.” (Publishers Weekly on The Accidental Virgin)“Amusing farce, with pearls of urban wisdom and some great zingers.” (Kirkus Reviews on The Accidental Virgin)

Better than The Accidental Virgin By Danielle I decided to give Valerie Frankel another chance after I had read and disliked "The Accidental Virgin" and this was a much better read. The book focuses on three sisters-Illene, Frieda, and Betty. I disliked the character of Illene the most and liked the character of Betty the most. Illene didn't have many traits that I could connect to and she did a lot of things in the book that I found to be really annoying and ridiculous. Frieda was a so-so character for me. I didn't mind her and I did root for her and Sam's relationship but there just wasn't something that I could fully connect with. I probably connected the most with Betty. I felt for her when she got duped (I don't want to reveal too much). The book is a fast read, as I read it in two days. I've bought The Girl-friend Curse by Valerie Frankel and hopefully that will be as good as "The Not-so-perfect Man".

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. More, Please! By A Customer Give me more of the Schast sisters, please! All three are smart, funny, and ultimately flawed (in the best possible, most relatable, laugh-with-me) kind of way. Unlike some other fictional NYC women, this trio of unlikely heroines is neither sexier, more clever or hipper than thou. And there's a minimum of coy product placement. What there's a maximum of: interesting characers you root for, a plot with just enough complications and some informative insight about the complexities of emotions inherent in being married, single, and widowed. A great feel-good read on a cold day.

This book illustrates a common issue in relationships: Whether it is better to marry someone you are passionate about vs. someone who is practical.I would not recommend it for young adults. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because there is some bad language in the book. Otherwise, it is written very well.
