Just A Few Pages More, Just A Few More By Don Leach I had stumbled across Walter Rhein’s blog, Streets Of Lima, several years ago in a search for something related to American expats living in Peru, which I wished could happen with me. Why? I am married to a Peruvian and although at the time I had only visited Peru once I was quite taken with the country and the people and I felt drawn there. Streets Of Lima was a fun and interesting destination for me where I could at least see someone living where and as I wished I could. My wife doesn’t wish to return to live in Peru or else I think it would have already happened. Fast forward a few years and now I find that Rhein has written a memoir of his time spent living in Peru. The book is full of what I would expect would be normal experiences for a person living in not just a foreign country but also a foreign way of life. For Rhein it went beyond the normal way of learning a new culture, a new way of life, as he didn’t try to just live it. He attacked it recklessly, full speed ahead without giving thought to the consequences. With too much thought or planning I think he wouldn’t have actually been in the moment and experiencing life. I don’t know if I could have been as brave as he was given my penchant for sticking to the same old same old. Well, at least I used to be that way.So what is Reckless Traveler about you may ask? If you want stories about embarrassing language gaffes you will find it in this book. If you want stories about being bullheaded about modern medicine and absolutely knowing that traditional ways are useless it’s in this book. If you want stories of devilishly allowing others believe you are a typical gringo who doesn’t even take the time to learn to speak the local language it’s in this book. If you want stories about letting go of the rigid way of thinking life is as you’ve learned and accepting another place based on what it is instead of what it isn’t you will find it in this book. If you want stories of reckless travel to see places and things of incredible beauty you will find it in this book. All told with great humor in a natural way that always left me wanting to read a few pages more, just a few more. That’s the sign of a great book to me.I’m sure Walter Rhein could have told even more stories and this book could have swelled to two or three times its size but as it is it’s pretty perfect. It left me wanting more, just a little more. I even found myself seeking out my wife to read to her from the pages more than once and she enjoyed the stories as well. Perhaps in a few years there will be a sequel, a volume two. After all, the Walter Rhein still travels to Peru and I believe he is there now as I write this, lucky dog that he is. Books like this make life a lot more enjoyable for me and inspire me to make my dreams come true. Now if only I can figure out a way to make that happen. Buy this book, it’s worth the money, it’s worth the time spent reading it. It’s worth that and much more.

A rolicking adventure from an Expat who resided in Peru for over 10 years By Rodney Dodig From the first paragraph to the last, author Walther Rhein, takes you on a page-turning journey through his ten years of living in the South American Country of Peru. Guerillas, thieves, friends, archaeological wonders, folk medicine, and the daily humdrum of living life as an expat plus much more fill the chapters of the great read. He takes you on an adventure in a Peru, with its capital city Lima, which is rapidly changing from the one he left. There is humor in his trials to learn the local language, Spanish, and the mistakes everyone makes when they get a little too confident. His frustration in dealing with local bureaucrats and governmental stooges will give you a few more laughs. There is adventure and danger in his travels inside Peru and to neighboring countries to get his visa renewed. This book should be read by anyone thinking of residing as an expat in Peru or any other country. There are challenges to overcome in all of them and this read will help prepare you for them and provide plenty of entertainment as you read it.

In fact By Jim Palm Day Williams has this to offer to FedEx: The Lord detests/ Unequal weights,/ So make it fair/When you ship freight. "Light of Day" is filled with such gold dust and nuggets, as though the author were some miner who's still panning for gold and knows many of the creeks that flow in the range of mountains God has given him to explore. In this case, the mountains are the word of God, and the undaunted poet has accepted the Holy Spirit's guidance through the fearsome Hindu Kush and Himalayas. I've been using Day's poems for my devotions, and they don't disappoint. In fact, I liken many of his poems to passages by Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Emily Dickinson, and even William Blake. How does Blake's "London" begin? "I wander through each chartered street/ Near to where the chartered Thames doth flow/ And mark in every face I meet, / Marks of weakness, marks of woe." Williams' poems have much the same photographic and clean spareness. "Don't pay men back/ For what they've done- /Give God some room.../ Put down your gun." These poems make me open my Bible, so they really are nuggets; only these nuggets feed my soul with God's wisdom. I'm a man who wants revenge, and I need God to intervene- and He has, through His word and through this poem. I once had a book of mystical poems that were driven by theology and were so obscure that I turned to God's word and stayed there, never returning to the dusty volume on my table. I cast it aside for being to ethereal; it went on the shelf, then to the Salvation Army when I moved out. "Light of Day isn't like that. This is a book to cherish, and I know it will be perusing it for many years to come. I believe it is the best book Day Williams has ever written. May it stand the test of time and rise in Christian consciousness out of the morass of Amazon.com.

Who was Emmanuel Trident?

Was he really Jesus Christ--as legend suggests?

On a wintry evening in 1940, a charismatic stranger suddenly appears in the crime-ridden village of Vesaria in the North Carolina mountains.

He brings harmony and prosperity to the community but then he marries the town outcast--the beautiful transgender Diana DuPree--and there is the miracle birth of twin sons. Enraged, Klansmen massacre the family and a horrendous plague wipes out all life in Vesaria within a week.

But myth says the Mountain Messiah actually escaped to a magic cave in the side of the mountain and remains asleep until a mystical signal awakens him.

His twin sons survive. One becomes a famous gay fashion designer. His sibling becomes a blazing replica of his father.

The two vow to find their father--and discover once and for all--if he really is the Messiah!

Tillotson I have followed this gifted writer's literary offerings and am never disappointed in his choice of themes, character development, and a fast-paced style. Naked Jesus's provocative title introduces us to Emanuel Trident and his wife Diana Dupree who are massacred while their two sons survive. Do read the Amazon Book Summary above as it shows the intensity of feelings evoked by religious beliefs where true believers think that God is always on their side as they commit sinister cruelty on their fellow man. The author's recurring themes are on display which include the victim finding ways to foil the victimizer. For those who like novels that compel the reader to read on with a touch of the supernatural, I would encourage you to read some of this artist's works.

I read the first couple of pages and skimmed the rest looking for the quotes that I thought were in this book. Finally realized that I had downloaded the wrong book.

A psychological mystery with added focus on philosophical communion, presented with an uncommon visual style. A man discovers an apparently abandoned journal, and through reading it unleashes a series of mysterious events which lead him to question the very nature of what he has found. He struggles with the implications of the effects which have descended upon him, unaware of the variety of forces which are interested in his reactions, either partly responsible for setting these events in motions, or lying in wait for the next turn of the cycle.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A psychological mystery as unusual and unnerving as any I’ve read before, packed with suspense and intrigue By Mo Untitled by Adam Sawka is a psychological mystery as unusual and unnerving as any I’ve read before, but if it’s suspense and intrigue you’re after, this novel is filled to the brim. The story itself is primarily about a young man, Trent, who discovers a weird journal with entries that are dark philosophical ramblings. As Trent reads more and more of it in the days that follow, his life is struck by disturbing anomalies, until his own mind begins to unravel in the realisation that the journal is causing them. The outcome is a tale so harrowing at times that the reader themselves is forced to consider its impact on their own psyche.Untitled, too, is written in the format of a journal; a journal within a journal, if you will (those who purchase the paperback edition will find that the dimensions also reflect this). It regularly hops between the core story and extracts from the pages that Trent is reading, not to mention side notes on his own musings. Sawka’s style here creates a subtle tension that draws the reader in, as if it were them living in that moment. There is no doubt that the format works very well in general for Untitled, and for the blackout or dream sequences also; the author has definitely captured some of the confusion and incoherence that comes with subconscious thought process. That said, it does take a while to get used to, and there are numerous passages where there is an “unedited” feel with word repetition or topic tangents aplenty. An element of Untitled that I both enjoyed and grumbled at in equal measure was the scale of trivial details included. The purpose of this is very clearly declared at the beginning of the book with the intention of the first-person Trent not overlooking anything that may be important to the unfolding mystery. Sadly, the author’s writing in this manner can often become tedious, mentioning time after time what Trent is eating, for example, when it really has no influence on the tale. It may take two paragraphs to offer information that could easily be covered in a single sentence. Elsewhere, Trent skips over large sections of potential story because he feels it is irrelevant in hindsight; by doing so, Sawka has established an inconsistency whereby the trivial specifics need not be included. Conversely, such intricate detail lends well in certain scenes to the building suspense, for the reader is right there with Trent, analysing each emotion, and holding their breath because they have no idea what is going on. One passage in particular that was expertly crafted by Sawka in my opinion was the deer in the forest, for it genuinely left me with a sense of dread all the way up to Trent’s grim discovery. There is no getting around the fact that this novel is designed to mess with your mind; the reader cannot go more than a couple of pages without some bizarre occurrence or revelation popping up. For the most part, this is fine, but in sub-plots such as Trent’s hesitation when using his computer, it can be a bit dull and repetitive. Every little idea or emotion has been written down by Trent in an attempt to somehow sync the thought process of the character and the reader, but it often seems far too analytical, thus slowing the progress of the tale. The free-flowing reflections by the journal’s original owner, however, are intellectual in their presentation – if not a little mad – and rarely dragged on; Sawka has clearly done his homework when it comes to portraying the enigmatic ramblings of a sociopath. That said, the subjects vary substantially and can be either absorbing or monotonous depending on the mood or interests of the reader. Another minor aspect I did feel was unnecessary were the breaks in the story so that Trent could share his confusion or dissatisfaction with the usage of certain words or phrases. Not only was it irritating, it seemed out of character to me, and rather a rant by the author himself than by Trent.Nevertheless, as far as mysteries go, Untitled kept me guessing until the end. The shifting pace allows the book to alternate between thrilling and haunting, and until the last fifty pages I still didn’t really have a clue what was going on, but it comes together swiftly and effectively. With regards to this, a slight criticism I have would be that the extremes of “what is going on?” and “ah, now this all makes sense” should be less skewed, and the reader could be drip-fed more clues to the puzzle throughout. However, when everything eventually begins to unravel, I will hold my hands up and admit that it was not what I had expected. To conclude, I would call Untitled an intelligent and unique read, and as unsettling a psychological mystery novel as you’re likely to find. 7/10

I am fortunate enough to own (and still read) a first edition copy published in 1873. The author's style of certainly a good representation of the "peoples poetry" of that era. I stongly suspect that the current generation of readers might not be tuned into this sort of work, but, that is their loss. Not only do we have some great writing with this work, we also have wonderful view into the life and times of the folks who settled our country, and for the most part, made it what it is to day. There are many, many bits of wisdom incerted into each and every piece of work the author has presented here. I have not had the opportunity to read or review the current edition of this work, but I do hope they included some of the wonderful illustrations which are found in the orginal. Highly recommend this one and do recommend you add it to your collection as you will want to give it a reread from time to time. A Note to the younger reader. If, after reading some of this work, you find that you feel it is a bit "hokey." do be aware that in about 130 years there is a good chance your writing will be viewed the same.
