It reflects the main character perfectly. I love how he stays true to himself, as twisted and morbid this may be. I read the book in one afternoon and simply couldn't put it down. The writing of poetry has been a revolutionary act of truth telling for thousands of years. About the Author: Anne Marie Erskine lives with her husband, Jim, in Prescott, Arizona. She has a Master of Arts in the Humanities from The California State University. Through her study of literature, Anne Marie has developed a love oF writing poetry for its own beauty and because the writing and reading of poetry results in a mature understanding of life because poetry demands a sharp focus on the exactness of words to express meaning and content and, therefore, an exactness of belief. That discipline helps end solipsistic preoccupations of the self and results in what the Greeks called arête – excellence and virtue in the search for truth and the development of our character and a rejection of the relativistic values and exposing empty slogans for what they are. Our Dream and our Happiness are within, not given by others, and poetry can help us discover that truth and define it for us. Poetry is a form of communication that can awaken truth through our engagement with ourselves and our world. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful! By eric3742 I have recently become a huge Jeffery Farnol fan! This book is one of the reasons why! It's about the fifth Farnol book I've read, and haven't found a bad one yet. I can't see myself reading anything less than everything he has written.Granted, Farnol's writing style is a bit stilted to some, but I see him writing in the vernacular of whatever period his story is in. He also turns a good phrase frequently.The story line is standard medieval fare and it's highly predictable: white knight, black knight, damsel in distress, everything except a dragon. Farnol keeps his story moving at a decent clip so I haven't been bored, even knowing what's going to happen (I just don't always know how it's going to happen).I highly recommend any Farnol book to anyone looking for pure escapism.

It's written in old style English - which is fun - but it can become a little too wordy at times, and he does like flowery rhetoric and descriptions. If this is to your liking, or if you can ignore it for the flavor and the story, it can be a worthwhile read.

It was interesting as it was written from an outsider's point of view, as if for people visiting from another country. But if you're road tripping and live here, it certainly will come in handy. It had lot's of stuff about these cities I didn't know. For each featured city, it had a top 10 places and things. I thought the best part was the up-to-date local nightlife information. If you want to know the local hot spot, then you're in luck. I'll be a very informed tourist now.

About the Author I am a language fun and polyglot traveling the world to meet fascinating people and getting to know incredible places and customs. I find nothing is more rewarding than practicing languages with others, getting new friends and meeting new cultures and customs. Probably you feel the same way. As I keep learning new languages I realize that each one opens up a whole array of new experiences and a new way to look at the world. I decided to write about my experiences to share them with other people and to transform my lifestyle into a way of making a living. I hope I will be able to transmit my passion for languages and for people to those travelers who find that an unknown foreign language is a barrier hard to get by. By Elidia Reed This book can indeed be anyone's answer to his communication while traveling issues. It has more than enough phrases that will help any tourist say what he means when in Italy. Now traveling in this very romantic and memorable country will be easier--this is because you can talk like a local! This is such an informative book.

Anyone going to Italy anytime soon will be very much helped with the phrases here that he can use in order to communicate better while in Italy and to be understood. I think a local travel guide will not be much needed if one has this book with him. Very profound!

I didn't know any Italian, but this book has learned me the basic stuff like:What time is it, can you show me the way to... and so on. Very useful guide if you want to learn Italian travel messages. Very good guide for very little price!

Whispers in the Woods, by Richard 'Doc' Kraft

About the Author Richard 'Doc' Kraft served 22 years of active duty and eight years in the Fleet Reserves. Half of his active duty was served as a Navy corpsman with the Marine Corps. He served mutiple deployments to Okinawa, Vietnam, Cuba, Hawaii and several others. He is a decorated war veteren, awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citaions as well as Navy and Marine Corps Commendations. He retired a Navy Chief Corpsman and served 22 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia from direct exposure to Agent Orange during his tours in Vietnam. He finds writing poetry to be a therapeutic release for post-traumatic stress disorder. Some of these poems and the stories behind them can be found in his book "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep".

He is a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America.Whispers in the Woods: A Compilation of Poetry, a sizable collection of verse on a variety of subjects. Kraft divides the book into six sections: Enlightenment, Love and Family, War and Soldier, Nature, Silly and Lighthearted, and Inspiration. Doc Kraft writes nonspecific rhyming verse of an old-fashioned kind.Even though there is a section called “War and Soldier,” war images appear elsewhere. In his poem “Now I Lay Down to Sleep’” Kraft goes to “A place of cordite hell and fret-full fear.” He goes on to say that “Sleep carries him away to a scary place,/ A place I’ve been before.” I don’t doubt that place is wartime Vietnam.I thought I might encounter specific imagery from Kraft’s experience in Vietnam in his poem, “A Firefight in Hell in Vietnam,” but there was more about Hell and Satan than there was about the war. It brought to mind John Milton’s poetry rather than the work of many Vietnam War poets.To wit: “Satan appeared and with smoke and fire he roared/And showed his ugly face.” Later in the poem we find out that “Our blood that night was very light,/As God was on our side.” The poem ends: “We faced the devils,/One on one,/And sent them straight/To hell.”“Two-Nine on the Line—Hell in a Helmet” begins: “Hot and steamy was the day,/When through the jungle,/We found our way./Our mission was simple,/or so they say./But we knew that/Some would die that day.”And: “In the bush, we forced our push/V.C. we did find./A fire fight ensued the night,/With the corpsman on the line.”Some of the members of that little group of seven ended up with their names on The Wall. Some were rewarded with “Purple Hearts and Stars of Bronze.” Kraft writes: “I was that corpsman at the rear/And felt the sting of steel.” He “stopped the blood from bleeding/But with death it was a ride./I did my best but will never rest,/With this horror deep inside.” Kraft dedicates this poem to the Ninth Marines.tet010A Navy Corpsman ministering to a wounded Marine in VietnamMore typical of Kraft’s poems is “The Last Patrol” in which men die after fighting well. “We carried them home where the buffalo roam/And people live without fear.”I hope I’ve given a strong taste of this book so that those readers who take pleasure in reading verse of this sort can buy it and support a veteran who has worked hard for years to help other veterans and their families. That includes his program, The Ground Pounders, which provides financial help to veterans.Doc Kraft also creates and sells decorative key fobs, which represent past and current wars. The author takes the reader into the wonders of his own mind. Through vivid detail and emotion along with much wisdom and wit the poems take on life as the reader gets a glimpse into the mind of a man who has seen much loss and also much love. This book is a treasure to every lover of poetry and short stories. Two thumbs way up!!
