About the Author Amos Mac Jr. was birthed by two hardworking parents and is the youngest of 3 children. He was raised like countless other individuals whose parents wanted better for their child than themselves. From a young age it was clear Amos wanted to be different than most and not be a follower. Mr. Mac was fortunate to have both parents in his life to instill value and a work ethic which can be seen today. Although Amos has things in his life to be proud of he has a long way to go to achieve his goals. He wants to leave a positive print on the world by affecting others through his experiences, words, and visions. He feels everyone can learn from each other and he can only be himself and no one else, he's Amos Mac Jr.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Irish castles, Vikings and Waterford Crsytal By Elizabeth Pavlovna My first “Castle” book by Gary McKraken got me hooked on castles. Aside from the intuitive appeal of castles that stems from reading fairy tales, watching movies and reading literature, I have found that castles serve as magnifying glasses in the development of countries. Whether left in ruins or restored to former glory, a castle is testament to historical events and to the changing of the guard as earls laid siege and either fell in defeat or rose in victory. In his latest book, McKraken introduces us to the castles of Ireland. True to his style, he gives you a snapshot of each castle's history, village, local attractions and a photo of the castle. Sad to learn that Waterford Crystal - yes, there is a Waterford Castle, is no more. I was particularly taken by this book because some of the castles mentioned have ties with the Vikings (Waterford being one,) The current TV series “Vikings” to which I have become totally addicted, is filmed in Ireland so it was good to have yet another tie in with the history of Ireland, castles and Vikings. I love this stuff. Does that make me a McKraken groupie or a castle geek?

An excellent companion for exploring castles By Val Whether your traveling to Ireland or you are castle enthusiast, Gary McKraken offers up a delightful and informative tour of the castles in Ireland. The book is nicely illustrated and full of information about the castles, the periods in which they were built, the surrounding communities, the families associated with the castles and relevant historical events. If you are traveling to Ireland this book will serve as a good companion of places to see.

I really enjoyed the style Le Fanu used to describe the moods and settings of such a dark mystery. The plot turns out to not be as scandalous for today's audiences, but it's a fun ride to the end. This is a must read for people who enjoy gothic literature. I am off to read his vampire novels next. (review written from my kindle).

Another good story by Le Fanu By WerePossum This book is a good mystery thriller. It is written with the same style as the other books I have read by Le Fanu. It has many interesting characters with excellent imagery created by the authors descriptions of both places and people. It is an easy read but well written. Synopsis: A rather isolated and unhappy household is plagued by the horrible murder of an unwanted guest. The story centers around the dark and brooding master of the house. The plot contains villainous characters, murder, and scandalous affairs.

27 of 28 people found the following review helpful. A ghastly tale from the father of the Victorian ghost story By Patto No one creates an atmosphere of evil and foreboding as effectively as Le Fanu (1814-1873). A recluse after his wife's death, Le Fanu wrote into the night by the light of two candles. Perhaps the shadows that danced on his page fed the sense of supernatural dread so potent in his prose.Published in l895, the story looks back to the 1830's. The setting is a gloomy, neglected English mansion twenty some miles from the nearest town. The Honorable Richard Marston lives in genteel poverty with his family. The dissipations of his youth have left him much reduced. The decay of the house reflects the moral decay of its master, a man of violent passions and morose temperament. His daughter's governess is a beautiful Frenchwoman with fascinating ways - one of those dangerous beauties whose eyes develop a villainous gleam when no one's looking.Into this uncomfortable household Le Fanu introduces an unwelcome, self-invited guest: Marston's cousin, the fashionable and hugely wealthy baronet, Sir Wynston Berkley. This lively beau of fifty is destined to be hideously murdered in his room. How his death affects the lives and minds of the characters is the substance of a plot rich in psychological drama.Often the reader senses the truth behind the mystery, but this does nothing to lesson the impact of one disturbing scene after the next. Even the servants behave strangely in this strange story. But don't be afraid to plunge into Le Fanu's sinister world. This horrific tale of guilt and madness keeps the innocent safe from harm - and has a (relatively) happy outcome. I recommend it heartily - along with everything else Le Fanu wrote.

Perhaps the most accurate book title ever. Seventeen bite-sized poems, snapshots of the poet's mind as he reflects on life, love, depression and all the things that make the world interesting. I admit that I even did not know Nero had I not read this book. This book opens my eyes into Roman history. Although I would like to know that history I have no way to begin because I do not know from where to begin. In this view, this book provides a starting point to learn the Roman history. Anyone, who is interested in the Roman history, would begin from this point if he as me knows little about Romans. By the way, I have read several books authored by Abbott, and I really like his books.

Robert Elsmere, by Humphry Ward

About the Author Mrs. Humphrey Ward (1851 - 1920), born Mary Augusta Arnold, was a British novelist and anti-suffragist. She was born in Tasmania to a prominent family poets and professors. One of her nephews was Aldous Huxley. She believed that society as a whole and women in particular were better off if issues of international relations, finance, law, and the military were left to men. She did believe, however, in a woman's place in local government. In 1908 she was a founder of the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League. She created and published the Anti-Suffrage Review in support of the movement. In addition to her anachronistic views on woman's suffrage, Ward held progressive (for their time) views on morality and religion, which were recurring themes in her novels. She also believed fervently in educating the poor and she established the Mary Ward Centre (formerly Passmore Edwards Settlement) for this purpose.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. One of the great Victorian novels By Nimrod Both Henry James and Leo Tolstoy had high praise for this long novel and it is easy to see why. It is one of Mrs. Humphrey Ward's finest efforts. Vivid characters, a controlled canvas of plot development over a long stretch of time, and rich language: this book will stay in your heart and mind for a long, long while. The religious issues (both public and private) that she writes about still haunt us today, and Ward had first hand-experience with grappling with them in her own life. All the characters are treated with the utmost respect and are never reduced to stock figures. This journey toward communion with the Divine (however you may define it) is palpable and painful--but ultimately rewarding for both the characters and the reader. A secondary parallel plot is also vibrant and rewarding. This is one of the best of Victorian novels out there, but why is this novelist relegated to the backwaters of scholastic neglect?

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Scholarly Edition! Not the one with typos By Arthur Smith This is a scholarly edition of Robert Elsmere, by a noted expert in Victorian Lit (who has a fantastic blog on the topic btw). not a reprint of a corrupt edition. The one star review refers to another edition.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Ignore the one-star review By another reader The review entitled "typos!" is not a review of this editon. The edition done by Miriam Elizabeth Burstein is a thoroughly professional, academic edition of Mrs. Ward's best-known novel. I might have wished for a few more footnotes, myself, and somewhat more annotation, but no one can legitimately criticize this edition for sloppiness or for being an OCR knockoff.

Must have activity guide for parents By Jane Smith As a former teacher and a Mom I was impressed with “Kidding Around Town, Cool places to Grow Smart Brains”. The book is far more than a guide to places to entertain your child in the Dallas Forth Worth area. The underlying premise is that activities with your child can be both entertaining and educational. This book is a guide to understand how to choose and plan activities that will enrich your child’s life, stimulate their intellect and create lasting memories of the interaction. Each venue’s entry is complete with directions including phone and website, tips and developmentally based suggestions on how to enjoy the experience. The cartoon hints on visual and verbal clues to knowing when it’s time to go home are priceless. Catherine hits the right note blending informative, educational and the practical into a must have guidebook to planning and enjoying outings with children. Ms. Cates’ guide is an excellent complement and extension to the timely listing of activities on her website, AroundTownKids.com. It’s well worth the investment to buy either the Kindle or paper version to have as a reference. Congratulations for a well thought out guide that is appropriate for parents of children of all ages.

Bates It's been a while since my children were little, and now I have two great-nephews (ages 2 and 3). In today's world, even at their young age, they are getting addicted to electronics; so I love getting them out to explore the world. "Kidding Around Town: Cool Places to Grow Smart Brains" has been an amazing resource when it comes to finding fun activities to do with them. This past weekend, we visited the Mesquite Rodeo and The Children's Aquarium at Fair Park. I haven't been to either in years and was reminded of them when looking through my book. Before each activity, I quickly read over the Age Appropriate Activities for Twos and Threes section. The book has such great ideas of how to make every event a fun and educational experience. My nephews loved touching the sting rays and seeing the albino alligator at the aquarium, and thought the calves and horses at the rodeo were the coolest things ever! They have seen them all on TV; ;but the expression on their faces when seeing and touching them in real life was priceless! Thank you Catherine Cates for providing such an awesome tool for DFW families to use!!!

Delft is only a short journey by train, tram or coach from many of The Netherland's cities. It is best known for its blue and white delftware which was loved and collected all over Europe, but it is also a beautiful old city worth exploring. Visitors will discover its old streets and canals, its churches and squares, and of course learn about Delft's most famous son, Vermeer, This is a self-guided walk around the old town, criss-crossing the canals and squares to soak up all that old Delft has to offer. Except from the book: "The tall narrow building you see on the other side of Phoenixtraat is the Bagijnetoren. It’s a survivor of the old city wall which used to protect Delft, and was a watchtower built at the start of the sixteenth century. It was later used to house the city’s poor right up to the nineteenth century. When Delft needed to build a new railway tunnel under the tower, they decided that the surest way of ensuring it didn’t fall down was to move it. So in 2011 it was moved 30 feet north to let the diggers in, and then five months later it was moved back again."

I'm not a great map reader and I wander off easily as something new catches my attention so I didn't find this as useful as other Delft guidebooks I found on Kindle unlimited. However, if you're looking for a written transcription of a guided walking tour, this is great. If you're looking more for a guidebook to help you decide what to see, I'd recommend reading Delft, a local's guide also on ku. Still, it is worth reading through this book before you venture out just for the nice historical details.Just fyi, if you're visiting soon, the Prinsenhof is being renovated and will reopen in February 2016.- Read via Kindle Unlimited.

John Seymour Eldridge began writing poetry and lyrics in Seattle, during the social revolution of the 60’s, when the war in Vietnam was causing turbulent times in the lives of a generation of flower children around the world. The Spiritual leaders of that revolution, our poets and songwriters, were calling for profound changes from within the young men and women in their expansive, Self-aware audience. John Seymour Eldridge, known as “Jack” to his friends, became a conscientious objector to the draft. He was arrested and jailed by the Fbi for his beliefs.

After his release from prosecution by the Aclu, John lived on the beaches of Hawaii for a year. He was working as a fine dining waiter in the plush hotels of Kailua Kona on the Big Island. Responding to a job offer from the owners of Channel 13 Television, he returned to Seattle and became instrumental in the creation of a well-received Arts & Entertainment Guide for Seattle/Tacoma and the greater Puget Sound area. His expertise was also tapped for work as a Talent Coordinator for Live Programming at the independent Tv station.

Thus began a career in journalism, covering music and the arts, which encompassed editing and publishing several newspapers, producing video workshops for prominent authors, and the management of a Self-awareness book publishing company. Today, at the age of 70 years young, John continues to write poetry and lyrics, with warmth and sensitivity, that express the insights he has experienced on the Way of Being. This book, Tripping up the Basement Stairs before Dawn, is a result of his awakening.
