The road runs for miles and miles through scrub pine forest of northwest Florida and finally comes to an end in the remote fishing village of Bay Key in the Gulf of Mexico. It is the only road in and is the only way out. Such places attract vagabonds, eccentrics and plain old crazies and Bay Key tops the list. There is Rattlesnake Billy, Zeke the town philosopher on a Harley, Todd and Terri who own the old Bay Hotel and promote it by advertising for extra-terrestrials and ghosts, and there is Ben the birdman and his blue-footed boobies...just some of the characters you will meet in SOUTHERN EXPOSURE, Tales of Bay Key.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Real Florida Cracker history By Jeff Dwyer In the '90s, when Tom Sanders lived in Cedar Key, FL and he and his wife owned the Island Hotel, I was a regular in the hotel's Neptune Bar. Before arriving in Cedar Key, Tom had been a newspaperman, and for some bizarre reason, they decided to change careers. So a journalist and a market research analyst became inn keepers as well as restaurant and bar owners. To most people who'll read these stories, the characters may seem exaggerated, but they are not. I watched many of these Cracker Floridians bellied up to the bar in the hotel nightly. There's one way off Cedar Key over the #4 bridge, and in the 90's there was a single 8-5 Chief of Police. At 5:00 PM daily the 911 line was forwarded to the Levy County Sheriff's Department that was located thirty-five miles inland. You were on your own in emergencies. It was wild, wild southern island life. Old timers will know exactly who Tom writes about in these stories. This is real Florida history disguised to protect the guilty from southern exposure.
