It brought back SO many joyful and a few tearful memories of my own junior year abroad (JYA). Even though I studied in Germany, it's remarkable how similar the human experience is for one traveling to a foreign country. The raw feelings of being all alone, the excitement and adventure that each new day brings, the friendships made for a lifetime and just in the moment, heart wrecking goodbyes, dealing with matters of the heart and "reverse culture shock." The author's experiences are so relatable not just for anyone lucky enough to study or travel overseas, but if it's your dream to travel, this book takes you on an exhilarating journey of new discovery wrapped up with all the emotions. KUDOS to the author for leaving me curiously wanting more, I'm thrilled by her decision to go back and work abroad and look forward to the day that book reaches the shelves.

It's also a great read. Diane intersperses stories of her Junior Year Abroad (JYA) with tips for traveling on a budget, combatting jet lag, and dealing with homesickness. She also includes a handy "Say What?" Brit-Yank translator to help with the slang. She's honest about her own feelings and emotions - and shares both her triumphs (ballroom dancing, being a cox four the men's four crew team) and disappointments (how she handled an "it's complicated" relationship with her boyfriend back home).This is a great read - if you are planning a JYA or if you want to read about someone else's JYA adventures.

Real Florida Cracker history By Jeff Dwyer In the '90s, when Tom Sanders lived in Cedar Key, FL and he and his wife owned the Island Hotel, I was a regular in the hotel's Neptune Bar. Before arriving in Cedar Key, Tom had been a newspaperman, and for some bizarre reason, they decided to change careers. So a journalist and a market research analyst became inn keepers as well as restaurant and bar owners. To most people who'll read these stories, the characters may seem exaggerated, but they are not. I watched many of these Cracker Floridians bellied up to the bar in the hotel nightly. There's one way off Cedar Key over the #4 bridge, and in the 90's there was a single 8-5 Chief of Police. At 5:00 PM daily the 911 line was forwarded to the Levy County Sheriff's Department that was located thirty-five miles inland. You were on your own in emergencies. It was wild, wild southern island life. Old timers will know exactly who Tom writes about in these stories. This is real Florida history disguised to protect the guilty from southern exposure.

Massiel guides us through the desolate landscape of a heart betrayed, and Jorgensen’s vivid illustrations add further impact to the writing.Terminus.Write me a prescriptionfor a pill that kills softly,the quietest of deaths…no dreams left worth hoping,no hopes worthy of being dreamt,no more why and wherefore,my darling, I must end.Though much of the book delves into dark places of the heart, there are moments of beauty and hopefulness scattered throughout.Resuscitate.Press hard on this sternum,break my ribs,crack open this chest,massage my heart back to life,clear the debris from these lungs,allow me to breathe lovein and out of this body once again.I’m glad I read The Imaginary Traveler. It was a journey well worth taking, and I recommend it to anyone who loves poetry and isn’t afraid to wander down all the twisted pathways where love and lust might lead.

It is filled with imagery, and the illustrations beautifully exemplify them. The author's descriptive ability is able to shock and pain, bringing up your most poignant memories.
