Playing off such interlocutors as PBS's Bill Moyers, fellow poets Anthony Piccione and Stan Sanvel Rubin, and an audience of Indiana University students, Lee emerges not only a serious, accomplished poet with a well-developed sense of aesthetic and philosophy, but also a skilled conversationalist with a warm sense of humor. Whether describing his family's journey from the highest levels of Chinese society to rural America (with a stopover in Indonesia) or explaining the differences between Western and Eastern concepts of past, present, and future, Lee is endlessly fascinating. About the Author Li-Young Lee was born in 1957 in Jakarta, Indonesia, of Chinese parents. His most recent book of poetry, Book of My Nights (BOA Editions, 2001), is his third. His first collection, Rose, is in its 29th printing having sold over 80000 copies. Rose is one of the best selling poetry titles in U.S. history. Dr. Earl G. Ingersoll's scholarship focuses on late 19th and early 20th century American and British literature. He has published six books based on interviews with contemporary authors including Margaret Atwood, May Sarton, Doris Lessing, Rita Dove and Lawrence Durrell. Dr. Ingersoll has taught at SUNY Brockport, New York since 1964 where he is Distinguished Professor.

A true poetic genius and visionary By Dennis Etzel Jr. I've collected interviews with Li-Young Lee and attended two of his workshops in the last seven years and this book is the culmination of his poetic strategies, efforts, and vision. I was hoping to see the interviews I've enjoyed reading in this book and WAS NOT disappointed. If anything, this book shows I'm not the only one who has enjoyed Lee's voice and positive attitudes about writing poetry. If you love his work, or wish to read about poetry and its relationship to the universe/God, this is a wonderful introduction and insight to Lee's vision.

Get a little close into Lee's workings By Marcus Aurelius The interviews here span a good period of time, so there is some repetition of material, but there is also some great insight into Lee's working process and work. It's a good gateway into some of his poems, and if you want to get to know one of poetry's modern masters, this is one way to go about doing it.
