Maybe we could sit on my door and float on top of those waves together.Lawrence “Viper” Finkle is a well known womanizer and has no intention of changing his ways, settling down, or starting a family. It’s not that he doesn’t like kids, as he is fantastic with his teammates’ kids (when he remembers not to swear around them). His friends watch his actions and accept him as he is. Do they always agree? No, but he is unapologetically himself at all times. In the Cranberry Inn series, he offered some hilarious moments as he adjusted to Kacie and the twins as part of Brody’s life, and I am so glad his story came out here.I’m not including very much plot description as part of this review on purpose. You won’t see the name of the woman who catches his eye, nor am I going to share how they met, or anything about their journey. Why? Because not knowing makes this reading experience so much more emotional. I spent the first part of the book watching his interactions with the women around him wondering which one would cause him to begin breaking his rules, and that mystery made it even better than if I had been waiting for a specific woman to walk through his door.Could we make it work? Could we both let go just enough to make it possible without letting go completely?I loved the way this story built. By the time it was clear who the woman was going to be, I was so emotionally invested in this story that my heart broke with every new scene. Every new detail. I shed plenty of tears over the course of this book, from sadness to happiness. There was so many emotions tied up in this story I couldn’t help but have them spill out of my eyes.I loved getting inside Viper’s head so much more than I could have imagined. There is so much more to his backstory that a simple self-proclaimed perpetual bachelor. His walls and rules were solid, but the right woman slipped right in without him even realizing she had broken through. And getting him to admit she was inside his walls was an even tougher change for him to make.“I have thought about it, and it kills me every single time, because while I can’t imagine my past without him, I don’t want to imagine my future without you.”The journey each of the main characters take is emotional. With promises made, walls erected, and pain to overcome, there are some wrenching moments. I loved every minute of this read, and found myself unable to put it down at several points. I didn’t know I NEEDED Viper’s story until I was finished with the 9 sentence prologue. But from that point on, this story was a necessity.

By Romance Between The Sheets Please note this review may contain spoilers.WOW. Seriously, just WOW!!! This is not how I envisioned Viper’s story playing out. Not at all. I expected Cement Heart to be a really funny and dirty read about a rough and tumble manwhore getting knocked on his arse by some scrap of a woman. Instead I was hit with a story that reduced me to tears too many times to count. It had me crying all the way until the very last paragraph. And I mean that literally. That last paragraph? Ripped. My. Heart. Out. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.I am struggling with writing this review. I want to include spoilers just so I can talk about them and include some beautiful quotes, but then I don’t want you to know what happens because it’ll be so much better when you read it for yourself. Sadly, I’m going with option # 2 which means that as I write this paragraph, I’ve deleted about a quarter of my review already. We were introduced to Viper, Brody’s foul-mouthed friend and teammate, in The Cranberry Inn series. Viper is a manwhore, there’s no doubt about it. He doesn’t do relationships, only one-night stands and as frequently as possible.Life is one big game to him, until one game goes horribly wrong and the consequences are devastating. Wracked with guilt over what happened, he spirals and cuts everyone out of his life. With his place on the team threatened, he’s forced to make some changes. One thing he does is to finally honour a promise he made to his best friend. But when he starts having feelings for a woman he shouldn’t, the guilt just keeps on coming. While this book has quite a lot of sad moments, you’ll also see a good amount of humour and happiness. I loved reading the banter, from between teammates, to Viper and his therapist, to Viper and his grandmother. Viper’s relationship with those people was also amazing to read, especially his grandmother. You really see a different side of him when he’s with her. And she’s a feisty old thing. While I don’t think you need to read The Cranberry Inn series to read this book, I would recommend it because they are really great reads as well. You’ll get to meet Brody and Kacie which are mentioned in this book. You’ll also get a good feel of who Viper is before he grows up.I think the only thing I didn’t like about the book was the cover. And I have a question: What happened to Viper’s piercings???Finally, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to see a pack of Lemonheads without tearing up just a little.

Viper will make you laugh, surprise you, rip your heart out, and make you fall completely in love with him.She did it. Beth Ehemann blew me away, again! I never in a million years would have imagined that Viper could make me cry, much less multiple times. I knew he would make me laugh, I knew he would be a good time, however, I did not expect to cry or fall completely in love with him. When I read Beth’s first book Room for You, I had no expectations. Obviously since it was her first book, I’d never read anything of hers before. I read it on a whim because it called to me. Zero expectations. And she blew me away. I fell in love with Brody and Kacie. Even going into her next two books, though I now had expectations, I didn’t really have doubts because it was the same story and characters that I loved. And she delivered. But Viper was different.Sure, Viper is a character that I got to know in the Cranberry Inn series, but this is his story. This is a different voice, a different path, different characters, and a different story to tell. I was nervous because now I had expectations. And now that I’ve read it? There was not a single reason I should have been nervous.Like I’ve already mentioned, Cement Heart broke my non-cement one. I cried and ached for these characters in a way that completely caught me off guard. I cheered for them to heal but didn’t know how they would. But as this book reminds you, even in the face of great tragedy, life goes on.I loved watching Viper grow, even while staying true to his wild, wicked, foul-mouthed ways. Even when he learns some of life’s most important lessons and “grows up”, he doesn’t lose who he truly is. And that person is a total sweetheart and great guy once you break through his tough exterior.I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I read it in pretty much an entire sitting – a couple of chapters last night before I passed out cold, and the rest today – and I’m equal parts happy and mad at myself. I’m happy because it was a gorgeous story that I loved from the first page, and mad because I didn’t make myself savor it. Now it’s over and I don’t know what to do with myself. When does Beth’s next book come out?!Buy this book. Buy it, buy it, buy it now!
