By Amazon Customer Draco is the first in a series of books about a young vigilante by a local Southern Maryland author, Scott Newman, which I had the pleasure of reading while on my travels this last week.This book takes a few pages to get into, but is worth the read. This is a superhero book and it reads like an action adventure movie. It has flash bang moments like a comic book or graphic novel. Newman's style shines with fight scenes and movement; if anime became a novel, this would be it.Skylar Morgan, the protagonist, is a struggling high school student with a rough home life and a broken heart. When tragedy strikes those closest to him, he is able to harness his own raging emotions (what 17 year old doesn't wish he could harness his raging emotions!) to a super-hero like quality, and he decides to single-highhandedly take on the evil gang that is causing havoc in his community. Part of the superhero allure is evident, in that those close to him do not recognize Skylar behind the Draco costume. Friends and I were discussing this phenomenon last night at dinner- how Linda Carter with glasses and a bun was Diana Prince, but once she took off the specs and let her hair down, she was Wonder Woman, and no one ever guessed one might be the other! But we love that about superheroes, right?Fortunately for us, Skylar/Draco doesn't have to go it alone, and finds friends and allies along the way to help him in his fight., my favorites being Stephanie and Kat. Though this book is primarily told in first person, the reader is given occasional glimpses of diary and journal entries of other characters, which were a real treat, and made the story fuller.All in all, I very much enjoyed this story, and would recommend it to readers who are interested in superhero/graphic novels. While a little violent for the pre-teen crowd, I think this book would be appropriate for ages 13 & up.

A Surprising and Admirable Book By Avid_Bookivore As a frightened town is being cruelly ran by feared criminals/villians, a superhero comes into play.Skylar, a boy with much discord in his life, grows tired of everyone around him getting hurt by these corrupt people and decides to finally do something about it. He adopts his masked alter ego/vigilante(Draco) and defends his town the best way he knows how...with the help of a few friends.I enjoyed reading how this unlikely boy becomes a well-loved and adored superhero to his hometown...with his identity secret. This part reminds me of all of the well-loved superheroes like Super-Man, Spider-Man & Batman! The story line is far from being original, however, it was told with originality, which is a MAJOR plus! The characters were all fleshed out and they showed genuine emotions. The ending ended on a high "note" that I enjoyed and now I anxiously wait for the second book.I recommend this book to older teens and adults(13+) because there is violence in this book that is not suitable for a younger audience.A surprising and admirable book by: Scott Newman!
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. First offering in a fast paced superhero saga By Rachel Newcomb Draco, Scott Newman's first novel in the series, is a fast-paced superhero tale. The story centers on an seemingly average young man, Skylar Morgan, who turns to vigilante justice in the wake of unbearable tragedy. Once Skylar is transformed from mild mannered high school student to Draco, masked avenger, the book moves quickly, presenting an array of memorable villains for our young hero to battle. A previous reviewer said "if anime became a novel, this would be it". I would say that is a pretty accurate description. The story stays true to the superhero genre, with Asian overtones. The novel would definitely appeal to readers that enjoy manga, anime, and traditional superhero comics and is suitable for readers of most ages. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
